Hey guys! I just wanted to see if there is any possibility and interest in switching raid comms from Ventril to Discord. From my experience Discord is a bit more user friendly and has slightly higher quality sound quality. It also has the benefit of having a chat built in that you can check in on without having to always be signed in and can even be checked on your phone or tablets.

There is also a benefit with PuGs in that Discord can issue a short discord.gg link that we can pass out to quickly get PuGs in comms with us when we are PuGging. They don't even have to have Discord installed they can run it in their browser.

I think it would be a nice way to increase guild communication since we can chat while we're not even in game!

Would a switch to Discord be feasible? Would you guys like to give it a test run or something?

I fully support this. I really like the text chat of discord better than ventrilo and think it would be another nice place to drop links to important things on forums/etc

I really like this idea. Discord has grown on me a lot over the past few months. I adore the ability to text and voice chat on a simple, clean looking UI. Being able to see messages from when I wasn't online, as well as things like pinned messages is great. Discord also seems to be one of the best places to get class specific information now with how popular the class Discords are.

You can also do a lot of neat things like set up a bot to auto-send newcomers pertinent information, and/or have them able to easily link people to resources. Being able to have certain channels hidden based on permissions is also a nice touch for things like pugs.

I'm actually going to be moderating an official Discord channel for a game developer, so I'm hoping that I'll soon know the ins and outs of it all soon cx

This would be awesome for posting links to the logs. We could even have an entire separate text chat room for just raid logs and discussion.

I love Discord. I have the app on my phone so I'm regularly reading the mage discord/talking to WoW friends via text chat when I have downtime.

I support this as well, I think the tech is just a bit more updated than vent so the sound quality is pretty great.

I agree, Discord is great.

It is also free which is a big plus.

I'm always logged in on Discord and its nice to be able to just pop in and just use the text chat or whatnot.

I personally don't like the forced push to talk feature in Vent. Discord is much simpler. Plus it has emojisūüėĀ

I honestly didn't like Discord when I first started using it due to some technical issues. However, once I got that resolved, I came to prefer it over Vent and Mumble.

I pulled the trigger for the people discussing. If it's decided we don't want to use it I'll just delete it... here's the link https://discord.gg/p4FGx62, it's set to not expire so as people see this post they can jump in

I was previously very against it as discord annoyed the hell out of me the first few times I used it.
Now I consider myself quite neutral to the whole thing.
Maybe I'd like it more if I used it more?

I've even gone and made myself a discord account: kälica#8895

I also realized that the voice clarity seems to be a lot better on Discord? I dunno. I'm constantly asking Shrykos what people said when we use vent (and half of the time he has no idea either) but when I run voice on Discord, it has yet to be a problem. Everyone has been clear as a bell and I don't have to fiddle (to no avail most times) with sound settings between my computer, WoW and Discord.
