I see and hear on regular occasion in the group that we want to run Kormrok again for Mythic tier pieces for more people. Maybe I'm looking at this differently, but there isn't any difference in upgrading a heroic tier piece vs. a heroic non-tier piece. The only thing that goes up is the item level and subsequent stats. Now, I'd sure like to see an added bonus to tier for Mythic rated stuff, that would be pretty awesome, but I still only get instant aimed shots as a MM hunter, no matter normal, heroic or mythic tier set.

So I just wanted to say that upgrading that tier helm to mythic is of no more benefit than upgrading that boring cloak to mythic, they both just raise the item level 15 points.

Is there something I'm missing in how I am looking at this?

The difference is that because set pieces are a required item for most classes. Kormrok is one of the rare bosses guaranteed to drop upgrades for multiple raiders. Plus, set pieces drop at a higher ilvl than most gear in lower citadel. 725 vs 720.

While the stat difference is about the same, the fact that many classes are required to wear their tier helm (due to another piece of tier only giving garbage stats). Makes it a more prized piece of loot.

I'm actually really annoyed with how bliz itemized lower citadel. Packing most bosses with large versatility items, guaranteeing many drops to be close to useless. Kormrok only stands apart because he's guaranteed to drop two useful pieces of gear. I really wish that they'd have made it like previous raids where every piece dropped was useful for someone out there.

I think more to what I was trying to state is that getting a mythic tier helm to replace my current Heroic tier helm only nets me 15 item level and the associated Stat increase.

I'd assume we are all playing with a 4pc set already, so completing the bonus is kind of moot. The only place I see it being a boon for someone is to be able to change out their non tier helm to the mythic tier and drop another tier slot for a regular piece with better stats.

What I don't know, is if bonuses from sets for some classes scale up. For example, if the bonus granted a prot pally a shield of 100K from a Heroic set but 150K from mythic. For hunter I gain nothing different.

I should be more knowledgeable about the other set bonuses.

To my knowledge set bonuses have never scaled up in wow. The raw ilvl bonus is all we're after.

Using the boring cloak example: We're probably all wearing Heroic Upper Citadel HFC cloaks. Upgrading that to a Mythic lower citadel cloak might net you only 5-10ilvls, they are even equivalent in some cases. (H-HFC upper: ilvl710-720 vs. M-HFC lower: ilvl720-725) However, many classes are locked into tier pieces so it's always a 15ilvl upgrade.

I understand that if one of your BiS pieces drops in lower and there is absolutely nothing better in upper then you get the same benefit. But that case is rare for most classes.

(Plus the guaranteed drop rate of bosses dropping tier.)

Is tier-upgrading over-rated at this point? Yes.

Are tier bosses the most efficient at upgrading raid overall ilvl? Also yes.

To me it's not about the tier piece being necessarily a better upgrade (though on average I think it is as I stated earlier), it's about the good item being a more reliable drop.

But yeah, it's totally only about the ilvl upgrade at this point.^^
